The Wizard of Oz featuring Judy Garland turned 75 years old just a few days ago. Steiff has had an incredible run of Oz bears: Dorothy, itty bitty Dorothy, Toto with basket, Cowardly Lion and Wicked Witch of the West.
The next phenomenal bear in the set is Scarecrow. This highly collectible bear is one of the best Oz collectibles around, and this is based solely on the quality of the workmanship of this piece. 40% Mohair and 60% cotton plush, which on closer inspections looks "straw-like"
. His jacket is green "linen" like with fiber straw sewn on the cuff. The jacket has a rope belt. The ruff around his neck is linen with more of the fiber straw sewn on it. Around his neck is tied more of the rope. His pants are brown "cotton-linen" with airbrushed patches and more of the fiber straw sewn on the cuffs. Scarecrow's hat is brown wool felt with a green rope tied around it as a hat band. The bear we have in store is number 229 of 1939; measures 13 inches long and sells for $275.00 plus tax.
