May Steiff Arrivals

May has been a busy month so far, and we are only six days into it.  New arrivals coming in, new ideas for the blog here and the excitement that this blog has created.

 This marvelous bear is currently on consignment is a large Goldilocks and Three Bears bear from 1986.  He is graded in excellent condition by Steiff Archivist Dick Frantz.  He measures 13 inches long, has a medium brown fur that is 50% wool and 50% cotton. HIs nose and mouth are black "airbrushed" on and are bright and clear.  He is fully jointed, has plastic child-safety eyes, wears his original Steiff chest tag.  He has his original "button in the ear" and has a hand signed Certificate of Authenticity signed by Dick Franz.  He is priced at $175 plus tax. Steiff during World War 1 was faced with the lack of wool and all other similar plush materials.  What is the best company of stuffed toys to do?  Steiff found a way to produce animals with a substitute paper-based material.  This type of toy was made from 1919- 1921 making the originals true collectibles.  This unique bear is a special replica of THAT bear.

63% cellulose, and 37% cotton the "Paper Teddy Bear" measures 10 1/2 inches tall, is fully jointed, has a hand embroidered nose and mouth.  He has plastic child safety eyes.  There are only 1,500 pieces of this bear made and this one is number 208.  He has the classic button in the ear and is considered a great addition to any Steiff or teddy bear collection. The "Paper Teddy Bear" is priced at $225 plus tax. Although Easter has passed who can resist a delightful rabbit.  "Timmy" is 49% mohair and 51% cotton.  A honey colored fur with light crème colored inner ears this bunny is too darn cute.  He has a hand embroidered nose and mouth, child safety eyes, has the paper Steiff hang tag, and the "classic button in the ear".  He measures 7 1/2 inches tall and would still look great on a spring themed centerpiece.  He is priced at $79.00 plus tax.

 This adorable kitty is ideally called "Kitty" by Steiff and is made out 47% mohair, and 53% cotton.  Kitty has an white fur body with black ears, tail and black highlighting on her front paws.  She has a hand embroidered nose and mouth, green glass kitty eyes and has the classic "button in the ear.  She measures five inches long and 3 1/2 inches tall (at its peak).  Currently there are two in stock and are priced at $79.00 plus tax.

 This glorious panda is different the previous FAO Schwartz that was posted.  This one is NOT an FAO piece and the difference is that there is no jointing to this piece at all.  He is 49% mohair and 51% cotton, has the classic "button in the ear" child safety plastic eyes, measures 5 1/2 inches tall and 5 1/2 inches wide. He is priced at $79.00 plus tax.

If your a fan of the "Wizard of Oz" this piece is just as adorable as can be.  He is none other than "Toto".  "Toto" is made out of 49% mohair and 51 % cotton.  His base fur is a light chocolate color with black highlighting through out.  He has brown --- plastic eyes with a black pupil that are child safe.  "Toto" measures 5 inches tall and five inches long.  He has the paper Steiff tag on his chest. the "Red Label" button in the ear tag, and he is number 1540 out of 2012.  HIs head is jointed.

"Toto's" basket is all wood and WILL hold Toto in it, ready for the Steiff Dorothy Teddy Bear.  The basket measure 5 1/2 inches long, 3 1/2 inches wide and is 5 1/2 inches tall.  There is a blue gingham blankie I the basket as well.  It is cotton and measure 5 1/4 inches long and 3 1/2 inches wide.  "Toto" and his basket are priced at $125.00 plus tax.


"Tim Teddy Bear" celebrates that spring is ending and heralds the beginning of Spring. "Tim" stands a tiny bit over 10 inches tall, is fully jointed and is made out of 49% mohair and 51% cotton.  He has a hand embroidered nose and mouth, child-safety plastic eyes, and carries a wool felt tulip. 

The tulip and "Tom's" nose have a Swarovski highlight.  He is limited to 1,500 pieces and this piece is number 99.  "Tim" is priced at $235.00 plus tax.
This magnificent Steiff is also currently on consignment and is a 1949 Replica piece named "Teddy Baby".  This is 100% mohair, has child-safety eyes, felt paw pads and sculpted open mouth.  The mouth is made of wool welt and has a airbrushed tongue, and a brown hand embroidered highlighting around the mouth that matches the hand embroidered nose.

He is wearing a blue leather collar that has 6 "brass" divets on it, a non-working "belt-loop" that is brass that holds a large brass bell that is about 1 1/2 inch wide.

He is a black label "button in the ear" and was limited to 1,500 pieces.  This bear is number 201.  He is 31 inches tall, and was signed by Steiff Archivist Dick Frantz on his left foot.  This bear can stand on his own and is THE BEAR to have in any Steiff collection.  He is priced at $975.00 plus tax.
